Petersburg is bringing history to life this month with two exciting, family‑friendly events. 

With both events happening the same weekend and just minutes apart, it’s easy to plan a family adventure that blends family fun, history and learning, 

Pack snacks, bring your camera, and enjoy a spring weekend exploring one of Virginia’s most historic cities.

The Battle of Petersburg Re‑Enactment Weekend


April 18–19, 2026  

Battersea, 1289 Upper Appomattox St., Petersburg

Families can step back in time as reenactors recreate scenes from the Battle of Petersburg. Expect uniforms, musket fire, living‑history demonstrations, and plenty of opportunities for kids to learn about Virginia’s past in an engaging, hands‑on way.

Event Hours:

  • Saturday, April 18: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Sunday, April 19: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Parking is available at Battersea, or families can hop on the trolley at the Petersburg Visitor Center. Admission is free.


See the Record‑Breaking VA250 Stock Car Up Close


April 18–19, 2026  

Petersburg Visitor Center, 37 River St., Petersburg

If you have a car‑loving kid (or adult!) in your house, this is a must‑see. The official VA250 stock car, complete with its bold red, white, and blue design, will be on display all weekend. Families can snap photos, explore the patriotic trailer setup, and learn more about the VA250 commemoration.

This is a drop‑in event, so you can visit before or after the reenactment for a full day of Petersburg fun.
