Maymont's Bier-Garden

A Two-Day European Festival, September 26-27

By Maymont September 16, 2026

Experience Europe without leaving Richmond at Maymont’s Bier-Garden, September 26-27. Bring friends and family to this two-day European festival with adult beverages, bratwurst and family fun in a beautiful outdoor setting. All event proceeds help Maymont care for its 100 acres, ensuring this beloved community gathering space continues to be beautiful and welcoming for all.

Bier-Garden is open from 11:30am to 7:00pm each day. Wear your lederhosen or come as you are! Maymont’s historic charm sets a European vibe for a festive, family-friendly scene with lively music, yard games, German folk dancers, and a Marketplatz featuring local vendors selling artisanal treats and gifts. Get competitive by testing your strength and endurance in the stein-hoisting and tug-of-war contests for both adults and kids.

Guests can indulge in mouth-watering Bavarian and Polish specialties cooked up by local chefs, like The Mayor and Ryba’s Pierogi. Toast the fall with a selection of beers, including the authentic Paulaner beer, or local craft brews. Cider, wine and non-alcoholic options will also be available. With a full plate and a cold drink, find a seat at a picnic table on the lawn or at one of the long tables under the bigger and better Festhaus tent to enjoy performances by the Hirschjager dancers and The Original Elbe Musikanten German Band.

Bring the kids for an afternoon of crafts, games, entertainment and more in the Kinderzone. Local food trucks will offer kid-friendly food options and fun festival treats like popcorn and ice cream. A crowd favorite for kids and adults alike is the Pint-Sized Pups Parade, organized by the Dachshund Enlightenment Foundation, where dachshunds in costumes parade through the festival and guests vote for a winning dog.

“Maymont’s Bier-Garden gives the community an opportunity to gather with friends and family for a celebration you can only experience once a year,” said Laurie Mavica, Director of Special Events and Event Sales at the Maymont Foundation. “You can enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of Europe in Richmond’s favorite gathering place and feel good knowing your festival purchases support Maymont’s mission as well as local vendors who make this event so special.”
